Need A Job? Come to Houston

More and more people are finding work here compared to the rest of the country. In November, there were 3% more job opportunities in Texas than the same time last year, way better than the national average of 1.8%.

Houston is expected to add around 60,000 new jobs in 2024. Patrick Jankowski, who's good at figuring out job stuff, thinks the job market will keep growing, just not as fast as before. Last year, he predicted we'd add between 60,000 and 80,000 jobs, and it looks like we're going to be around 70,000-72,000 jobs. He also said there probably won't be a recession, but some industries might have a tough time.

Jankowski thinks prices might keep going up a bit because there are more job openings than people looking for jobs. Houston has been creating a ton of jobs in the past few years – 557,000 jobs in the last 42 months! That's more than we usually make in a whole decade. But Jankowski says we can't keep up that super-fast pace. Now we're more like a marathon runner, trying to find a steady pace that we can keep up over time. Next year, we'll be figuring out if we need to go a bit faster or slower, but we want to find a pace that's good for the long run.
